The culture I will be studying over the next few weeks is the culture of Germany. My main reason for choosing this culture is because I am part German and I know very little about its culture, but I would like to know more. I hope to learn about the history and culture of Germany, whether its about the foods they eat or the geography of the land, I am fascinated and I look forward to learning more.
After first researching the food in Germany I realized a lot of similarities to American foods. Food is a very important part of the culture in Germany and is even mentioned in the popular German fairy tail, Hansel and Gretel. German cuisine has a large emphasis on meat and potatoes, but it competes alongside with other sweet and sour dishes in Germany. http://allrecipes.com/howto/german-cuisine/
Germany is located in west-central Europe. It stretches from the Alps to the Baltic Sea while bordering eight different countries along the way. The northern tier of Germany is fairly flat with long, smooth plains and many lakes, while in the southern tier is much more rocky and hilly. The climate is very temperate with cold, wet winters and warm summers with very little wind. Because of this diverse geography causes a wide range of foods from vegetables being grown in the north and cattle being raised further south in the rolling hills.
Considering i know very little about Germany, this was very informative and helpful in me understanding the culture! It's cool that you want to learn more about your heritage too!
