China - Blog Post #2 - April 12, 2015 - Myles Fiascone

The main holiday in the Chinese culture is Chinese New Year.  Originally tied to the lunar-solar Chinese calendar, the holiday was a time to honor household and heavenly deities as well as ancestors. It is also a time for families to join together to have a feast. The most popular dishes on this holiday are dumplings, fish, spring rolls, rice dumplings, and a New Year's cake. Another name for this holiday is the Spring Festival, as it takes place in the Spring, not on January 1st like us. The younger generations have now celebrated the Chinese New Year as a relaxation from work rather than renewing family ties.
