China is rich in tourist attractions. Delicious foods are a vital part of a good tour. With a long history, unique features, numerous styles and exquisite cooking, Chinese cuisine is a very important part of Chinese culture. Chinese dishes are famous for color, aroma, taste, meaning and appearance.

Below is a list of the eight most popluar dishes among foreigners and Chinese. These eight dishes are available in most large restaurants in China.
Sweet and Sour Pork (chicken)
Gong Bao Chicken
Ma Po Tofu
Wontons
Dumplings
Spring Rolls
Chow Mein
Peking Duck

Chow Mein is stir-fried noodles with little soup that are known for their salty taste. The name comes from the Taishan Chinese language (a kind of Cantonese). Taishan is a county of Guangdong province. There are many varieties of chow mien all over the world. It is a famous Chinese cuisine.

The different kinds of noodles used in Chow Mein include rice noodles, flat noodles, fine noodles, sliced noodles, filleted noodles, silk noodles, and more. Chow Mein is usually stir fried with brown and glossy soy sauce.

Chow Mein or "fried noodles" originated in Northern China. While the chow mein served at take-outs and many American Chinese restaurants is designed to appeal to western tastes, it is based on an authentic Chinese dish. Until recently, our perceptions of Chinese food were based on early Chinese immigrants, who came primarily from the Canton region in southern China. Since they ate rice, we assumed all Chinese eat rice. However, wheat and not rice is the staple crop in the north. So, in a way you can say that chow mein represents northern and southern styles of Chinese cooking.

  1. Sounds delicious! I never knew there were so many ways to make chow mien. I just thought that the kind they serve at Panda Express was the only kind. Great job expanding on the history of the food culture
