Introducing China

I have chosen to research the Chinese culture. Growing up, my family and I always loved Chinese food. It was always a special treat when we got to have it for our meals. I don’t really know much about the history of this culture, so I am hoping to learn a lot from these blogs.
Beijing Roast Duck is one of China’s most famous dishes. It used to be eaten only by the emperor, but nowadays everyone loves it. You can eat it with pancakes, cucumber slices, and plum sauce. Strange combination. You may have seen this meal in a Chinese restaurant near you.
Another Chinese specialty is hotpot. This is a pot of boiling water filled with herbs and spices. People dip the food they want to ear into the pot so that it gets cooked right on the table.
Perhaps one of the most famous Chinese food is noodles. There are many different types. In fact, almost every city has its own specialty noodle dish. In some places in the south, where the weather is very hot, Chinese people eat cold noodles. Tasty right?
Ancient China was built along the two rivers—first the Yellow River in the north, and later the Yangtze in the south. In the settlements along the Yellow River, people grew millet in the rich soil. In the south, people grew rice along the Yangtze river. These people ate a lot of fish, vegetables, and water plants. With the heavy use of human labor, the same area of land in the south could grow about twice as much food as in the north.
