China - Blog Post #1 - April 12, 2015, Myles Fiascone

The culture I chose is China. I chose this culture because, in my experiences with Chinese food, it has been interesting and tasty. One thing you may already know about this culture is that they use chopsticks. They do this because they consider using knives and forks unsuitable due to the fact that these instruments are regarded as weapons. Another fact, one that you may not know, is that most Chinese dishes are prepared in bite size pieces, ready for direct pickup and eating. The majority of the country is Mountains with the Gobi Desert to the north. Also in China is the third-longest river in the world called the Yangtze River. The Great Wall of China began construction around 215 B.C. to protect itself from invasion from the West, even though the civilization conducted extensive commercial trading with the West.

  1. I find the Chinese to have one of the most fascinating cultures and also the best food. I did not know that the Chinese didnt use forks and knives becuase they are regarded as weapons, I found that to be very funny and different from our own culture.
